Meet Josh Tuck, one of the trustees of NPT Pride. He, alongside Rose and Sarah (the two other trustees) founded NPT Pride while sat together in the Plaza.
They initially planned on just showing the film ‘Pride’, as it was very specific to the Neath Port Talbot area, but quickly realised that there was potential to create a much bigger event which would involve the whole community.
Here’s what Josh has to say about NPT Pride and why it’s so important to the area:
“When we first got together to discuss showing the film ‘Pride’, it set us off wondering why there wasn’t an NPT Pride already. We were initially a bit apprehensive and thought that maybe there was a reason behind it, but we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised!
When we started approaching local businesses, groups and figures in the community, the reaction just blew us away. Everywhere we went, we were just pushing on an open door and people couldn’t wait to be involved.
We would hear all the time, “It’s about time”, “I never thought that I’d see a Pride here in my life”, “I’m so happy that it’s happening” which was just absolutely fantastic.
We thought that it would end up being a small community Pride, but it soon snowballed, and we had people from Cymmer to Ystradgynlais who were so passionate and enthusiastic about NPT Pride, and were ready to chip in whatever was needed to make it a success.
NPT Pride wouldn’t have taken off the way it has without the support of the local community who rallied behind us. It just goes to show how much pride the people of Neath Port Talbot have in their area, that they were so eager to have yet another reason to be proud of this lovely part of the world.”
