Margam Country Park hosted the final stage of the highly anticipated Tour of Britain 2023. Did you catch the action?
Cycling is undoubtedly a popular pursuit for many of us in Neath Port Talbot. For those that take to the world-famous trails of the Afan Forest Park, to the challenging National Cycling Network routes, or for those that may prefer a gentler ride, we can all agree that a passion for cycling is very much alive in our area.
This was no exception when the Tour of Britain 2023 was welcomed in at Margam Country Park. The eighth, and final stage of this iconic cycle event saw over 100 of the world’s best riders race from Margam Country Park, to battle to the finish line in the shadows of Caerphilly Castle.
This was made possible through an agreement between the event organisers and the Welsh Government. The agreement will see the Tour of Britain, and its sister race, the Women’s Tour, each visit the country in alternative years through to 2026.

This was the first time that Margam Country Park hosted the Tour of Britain. But the park is certainly no stranger to prestigious cycling events. Margam Country Park is home to the annual Dragon Ride, which is the UK’s oldest, and arguably most legendary cycling sportive. The 1,000-acre park is also well known among the mountain biking community as it regularly hosts riveting events, including the 2022 Welsh MTB Marathon Championships.
It is moments like this, where we share our pride for place with an international audience, on a global platform, that help us to reflect on what we have. And what we have is truly remarkable. Together, We are NPT.
